Commercial and residential construction is playing a vital role in the Indian economy contributing an average 6.5% of GDP, these sectors consume a lot of energy throughout their life cycle as per the 17th Electrical Power Survey of the Central Electricity Authority , which states the electricity demand is likely to increase by 43.7% in 2016-17 as compared to 2011-12, thus, becoming a major contributor to greenhouse gas emissions.
Due to these concerns India is looking to develop sustainable green construction designs for their buildings and infrastructure; and has adopted a number of policies and developed various incentives to promote sustainable construction in India.
Other factors driving India’s initiative for sustainable construction relates to national shortages of water and huge volumes of waste generation. A recent survey stated that 88% of Indians consider energy management very or extremely important and the selection of property which is LEED or GRIHA certified is becoming increasingly popular within residential communities and business parks.
Already, the Indian government has taken the lead and developed over 70 projects (over 2.70 million square meters) which have been registered for GRIHA certification, a further 1.25 million square meters of private sector projects was also registered for the rating in early 2011 under LEED & GRIHA.
Based on India’s huge increase in demand for sustainable and green building principles, IQPC is proud to announce the launch of Cost-Effective Sustainable Design and Construction India being held on the 26-27 April 2012 in Mumbai, India.
Cost-Effective Sustainable Design and Construction India will focus on the latest trends, challenges and opportunities in the design, construction and operation of green buildings in India. The event will also showcase case studies of some of the most interesting and challenging sustainable construction projects in the region and across the globe.
This summit will give you the tools to network with industry leaders and review various policies and frameworks that are being adapted throughout the Indian region towards green building construction.
